A Field Note
“Kaki Jalan” is Malay for walking companion, a phrase for someone who travels alongside you, not ahead of you.
We travel slowly, so we arrive fully.
The most enriching journeys are the ones we walk at our own pace, in the company of people who value the same things. Good food, genuine culture, and time to breathe it all in.
Every Kaki Jalan journey is designed around a learning theme, hand-picked hosts with dietary consideration taken care of in the background.
I
Small groups. Deep conversations.
No more than ten travellers per journey, so every story gets heard, every pace gets respected and every meal feels like a family table. It also means we can be genuinely attentive. From airport pickup and luggage to helping you set up your eSIM or capturing the moment for you. The small things that make a big difference..
II
Learning as the souvenir.
We design each itinerary around a subject worth knowing, whether ceramics, tea, traditional wellness, or heritage cuisine, led by craftspeople, historians, and local hosts.
Dietary care, by design.
Each journey is scouted and planned with dietary needs in mind from day one. That means halal-friendly throughout, so our members can simply enjoy the meal in front of them.
Taste, Craft & Culture A Cantonese Journey, six days.
Our inaugural journey moves through the living culture of Guangzhou and Foshan. A 500-year-old kiln still firing in Foshan. History you can walk through, not just read about. Ten seats only.

Six days, carefully walked.
A rough outline, not a checklist. Each day leaves room for the second helping and the longer look.
Day 1
Arrival in Guangzhou
Arrive and settle in. First meal together at a Halal Cantonese restaurant. The evening ends with a walk through Yongqing Fang, the old quarter.
Day 2
Guangzhou, layers of history
Chen Clan Academy in the morning, the Western Han Nanyue King Museum in the afternoon. The day closes on the Pearl River.
Day 3
Gardens and water towns
Morning in Qinghui Garden. Afternoon at Fengjian Water Town, a canal village that has changed little in three centuries.
Day 4
Foshan, craft and fire
The Foshan Ancestral Temple, where the Lion Dance is still performed and passed on. Then the Nanfeng Ancient Kiln, firing continuously for 500 years. We try the Lion Head craft and end with Double-Skin Milk making experience.
Day 5
Medicine, markets, and a final feast
Dade Chinese Medicine Hall, one of Guangzhou’s oldest. A walk through Beijing Road before a farewell dinner at a Cantonese halal buffet.
Day 6
Home to Singapore
Check out before we head to the airport, carrying a few more stories than when we left.
How We Accommodate
Halal and vegan-friendly, start to finish.
For this trip, every meal is scouted and confirmed in advance. We work with halal kitchens and Muslim-Chinese restaurants throughout the itinerary, so our members can set the worry down and simply enjoy what is in front of them. If you have other dietary requirements, tell us on the waitlist form and we will build them in.
Full itinerary, hotels, and pricing are shared privately with members on the waitlist.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Kaki Jalan Club?
Kaki Jalan Club is a Singapore-based curated travel club for discerning travellers in their second act. We organise small-group journeys built around cultural immersion, wellness, and genuine learning. Unlike most tour operators who hand groups over to third-party guides, our founders travel with you for the entire journey. Every detail, from dietary needs to pace, is taken care of so our members can simply show up and experience.
Who is this for?
Our members are typically 55 and above, curious, unhurried and done with rushed itineraries. Many are referred by their adult children who wanted something trustworthy, small and genuinely well-organised for the people they love.
Is Guangzhou safe and comfortable for older travellers?
Yes. Guangzhou is a modern, well-connected city with excellent medical facilities, smooth infrastructure and a strong halal food scene. Our itinerary is paced gently, with rest built in and distances kept manageable throughout.
Is the food halal-friendly throughout?
Every meal is scouted and confirmed halal-friendly before the trip. We work with halal kitchens and Muslim-Chinese restaurants throughout Guangzhou and Foshan. One meal on the itinerary is at a vegetarian restaurant, a deliberate choice that is fully permissible and often a highlight for our members. You will not need to ask or worry at any point during the journey.
Can you accommodate other dietary needs like vegetarian, vegan, or low-sodium?
Yes. Tell us your requirements when you register interest and we will do our best to build them in from the planning stage. The earlier you let us know, the better we can prepare. Last minute requests are always welcome and we will do everything we can.
How much walking is involved?
Each day involves light to moderate walking at a relaxed pace. Rest stops are built in and no day is designed to exhaust you.
How much does the trip cost?
Our inaugural journey is priced from SGD 2,488 per person, covering return flights from Singapore, accommodation, ground transport, guided experiences and all meals listed in the itinerary. Full pricing details are shared with registered members.
How do I book?
Register your interest through the form on this page. We reply personally and will send you the full itinerary and pricing from there.
How many people travel together?
No more than ten travellers per journey. This is a firm limit, so every pace gets respected and every meal feels like a family table.
My parent is interested but not confident travelling independently. Is someone with them throughout?
Yes. Our hosts travel with the group for the entire journey. We handle luggage, airport navigation, eSIM setup and are present at every meal and activity. Your parent will not need to figure anything out alone.
Who we walk with.
The curious, still learning.
Kaki Jalan is for travellers in their second act, typically 55 and onward, who value understanding a place over ticking it off. People who read the menu, who ask the guide a second question, who like a slow morning before a full day.
Travellers who prefer a small table.
Our groups are small by design, no more than ten. It means everyone gets a window seat, a real introduction, and a voice at the dinner table. It also means every journey is oversubscribed, and we plan two to three trips a year.
